Understanding Network Bridges for Seamless Connectivity

In the world of computer networking, a network bridge plays a vital role in connecting different network segments. It acts as a device that links two or more network segments together, enabling them to function as a single network. This connection ensures data can move seamlessly between different parts of a network, improving communication efficiency and reducing congestion.

How Network Bridges Work

A network bridge operates at the data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model. Its primary function is to filter traffic and forward data frames based on their MAC addresses. When a bridge receives a data frame, it examines the destination address to decide whether to forward or filter the frame. By doing this, network bridges reduce unnecessary traffic and improve overall network performance.
